Meet Kevin Cruickshank: Vertical Sales Lead - Energy

We’re delighted to welcome Kevin Cruickshank to the Chorus team as our new Vertical Sales Lead for the Energy sector. With over two decades of experience across the Oil and Gas and Renewables sectors, and a decade spent in digital learning, Kevin brings a deep understanding of how technology, training, and compliance intersect within global industries.

Kevin joins us at an exciting time of growth, as Chorus continues to expand its reach across the energy sector and beyond. His expertise in building lasting client relationships and driving strategic sales will play a key role in helping us deliver on our mission to make learning, competency and compliance management simpler and more effective for every organisation we support.

We caught up with Kevin to hear more about his career journey, what drew him to Chorus, and what he’s most looking forward to achieving in the months ahead.

Can you tell us a bit about your career journey so far and what led you to your role in sales?

I’ve spent over 20 years working across the Oil and Gas, and Renewables sectors, with new sales and account management at the heart of almost every role. For the past 10 years, I’ve been in the digital learning space, providing software solutions to a global customer base through market-leading learning and development platforms in the energy, maritime and clean energy sectors.

Before that, I worked in executive search and senior-level recruitment, developing business with clients ranging from super-major oil and gas operators to emerging technology start-ups. The most enjoyable part of sales for me is working with people and building relationships, that’s what has kept me working in it for so long!

What initially attracted you to join Chorus, and what excites you most about this new opportunity?

I’ve followed Chorus’s journey since the early days, having previously worked in the same companies as Iain and Rory, though not at the same time. Obviously, when a new player enters the fray, you need to be aware of the competition.

I was impressed by Chorus’s agility, customer focus and modern technology stack geared towards the energy transition, especially compared to the legacy systems that dominate much of the industry. Chorus’s ability to evolve quickly and deliver innovative solutions for compliance, competency and training management really resonated with me.

What excites me most is the opportunity to bring the Chorus platform into what’s become a fairly stagnant e-learning marketplace within the energy sector. Chorus is challenging that status quo, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the roadmap for future developments. Working for smaller, up and coming companies is where I love to be, so Chorus seemed the perfect fit.

What does your role as Vertical Sales Lead involve on a day-to-day basis?

No two days are ever the same! Right now, my focus is on engaging new prospects, raising awareness of who Chorus is and what we do.

It’s an exciting time for Chorus, with the platform expanding, new functionality being rolled out, and our growing course library making a real impact. Alongside customer outreach, I’m deepening my understanding of our products and solutions, and collaborating with the sales leadership team to build strategies that position Chorus for sustained international growth in the energy sector.

Which sectors will you be focusing on at Chorus, and why are they such exciting areas of growth?

My focus will be on the Oil and Gas and Clean Energy sectors — both of which are undergoing enormous transformation. The rapid development of renewable projects and the global shift towards a low-carbon future mean there’s a growing need for skilled, compliant workforces.

Chorus is perfectly placed to support that transition. The platform is built with flexibility in mind, enabling the transfer of existing skills into emerging industries like wind and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS). It also helps individuals upskill in key areas such as decommissioning, supporting both workforce mobility and future readiness.

In your opinion, what sets Chorus apart from other providers in the digital learning space?

I believe that Chorus is redefining what digital learning looks like for the energy sector by simplifying historic processes and procedures into one integrated platform. Our platform brings together compliance, competency and learning management into one seamless, modern and intuitive experience, accessible from any device.

Chorus has the flexibility to innovate quickly, adding new features and functionality without long delays, this agility is key in a fast-evolving energy landscape. When it comes to e-learning content, Chorus delivers courses that feel very engaging and of-the-times, which I believe will also play a big part in our growth.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing to recharge?

Outside of work I enjoy nothing more than spending family time with my two football daft sons. To help me unwind I enjoy pushing weights in the gym, golf, cycling, and creating and performing music.

The boys are doing their best to turn me into a pro gamer but I’m trying my best to steer clear of the PS5 and Xbox as much as I can!

What’s one personal value or habit that influences how you approach your work?

I’m a firm believer that you get out what you put in, whether that’s in your career, your relationships or your personal passions. That mindset keeps me motivated and it’s something I try to carry into every interaction, both inside and outside of work.
