Why this course matters

  • Each year in the UK around 1000 electrical accidents are reported to the Health and Safety Executive, with approximately 25 fatalities
  • Many electrical accidents are caused by damaged equipment, unsafe isolation or failure to follow procedures
  • Proper awareness, planning and safe behaviours significantly reduce the risk or electrical incidents

  • Overview

Electricity is a vital part of modern industry, but it also presents some of the most serious workplace hazards. Contact with electrical systems can result in electric shock, burns, fires, explosions, and fatalities. This Electrical Safety Rules course provides learners with the essential knowledge needed to recognise electrical hazards, apply safe working practices and understand the controls used to prevent incidents in hazardous industries.

This course introduces the key principles of electrical safety, including common electrical hazards, safe isolation, control measures, emergency response procedures, and the importance of following permit-to-work and lockout/tagout procedures. Learners will also explore the dangers associated with damaged equipment, overhead power lines, portable electric tools, and working in hazardous environments.
