At Chorus, our people are what keep everything moving. This time, we’re catching up with Megan Burns, our Content and Community Manager. She looks after our words, visuals, and online community, and no two days are ever quite the same.
We asked Megan to share a bit about her role, her background, and what she gets up to outside of work.
What does a typical day look like for you?
No two days look the same! There’s loads of development going on right now, which means I always have plenty to get stuck into. At the moment, a lot of my focus is on our new website we’re building with the team at Aspect, so I’m busy pulling together content like course descriptors, landing page copy, and product features.
A big part of my role is content, so I spend a lot of time writing, creating graphics, and brainstorming campaigns for our social channels. Some days that’s about building brand awareness on LinkedIn or Instagram, other days it’s writing blogs about the team or sharing updates about what’s happening behind the scenes.
What experiences shape the way you work now?
Before Chorus, I looked after digital content for a contemporary art gallery in Scotland. At first glance, what we do at Chorus might seem a million miles away from the arts scene, but there are more similarities than you’d expect. Visual identity is a huge part of what we do here at Chorus, it shapes everything from how we present the brand to how we share content online.
I’ve also had hands-on experience creating a new website, which taught me how to balance creativity with functionality. My background in the arts gave me an eye for detail and now I get to apply that in a new context.
Outside of work, I create commissioned artwork, which has been a big part of my life for the past few years. That process has taught me a lot about listening to what people want and bringing ideas to life visually, skills that come in handy when shaping content at Chorus.
How do you see the Chorus community growing over the next year?
As Chorus grows its course library and its capabilities, I want the community to grow alongside it in a way that always feels people focused. For me, it’s about creating a space where clients feel supported and part of something bigger than just the training itself. Over the next year, I’d love to build a community that expands with Chorus but always keeps people and their experiences at the heart of it.
What project are you most excited about right now?
If I had to pick, I’d say building out some of our social channels from the ground up. It’s fun to experiment with different content and see what resonates with people.
And when you’re not working, what do you get up to?
I try to stay away from screens when I’m off the clock. I love being outdoors, sea swimming, (badly) attempting to surf, or heading into the hills. Netball’s also a big part of my life…when I’m not injured, which feels like most of the time right now! And when the Scottish weather isn’t on my side, I spend time creating my artwork.
