Having worked in the world of e-learning and training for over seven years, we are excited to welcome Corrie Robb as our media developer.

“It’s been a whirlwind start!” he said when we caught up with him for our latest ‘meet the team’ interview.

As a media developer, Corrie develops visuals and animated graphics for Chorus’ leading e-learning. Bringing creative expertise and learning design to the role, he has already made a huge impact across our client projects - some of which are our biggest to date.

Corrie gets us up to speed with what life is like developing impactful content for our clients.

1. Tell me about your career background before you joined Chorus? How did you first get into the industry?

“I studied computer graphics and animation at Robert Gordon University graduating in 2017, and since then, I’ve been immersed in the e-learning industry.

“I got my first role straight out of university at a company called Fugro. I worked in the company’s e-learning department, where all the courses and content were developed internally. It was a fantastic introduction to the industry, as I was surrounded by experienced professionals and had direct access to subject matter experts within the company.

“During this time, I took on a voluntary role creating graphics and animations for my hometown football club, Brechin City FC, which helped me refine my skills. Looking back, I probably learned more from that experience than I did from university - it was a great way to experiment, make mistakes and improve. I still keep up my voluntary work today and I’ve also started selling custom football prints for charity too. I set up ‘Football Prints by Corrie’ in 2020, and since then I’ve donated over £2,400 to charities like Marie Curie, MacMillan Cancer Support and Alzheimer Scotland.

“In 2022, I moved to a similar role at RelyOn, and that’s where I met Rory. This role gave me more opportunities to hone my motion graphics skills, which wasn’t as prominent in my previous role.”

2. When did you join Chorus and what attracted you to your role?

“I joined Chorus in July 2024 and it’s been a whirlwind start! One of the biggest draws to the role was the chance to work with Rory again, as I’d had a great experience under his leadership in my previous role. I was also excited about the company’s energy and ambition to scale up and expand into different industries.

“What really stood out to me was the level of creative input I would have at Chorus and the opportunity to shape how content is built from the ground up. Having that level of control and being able to influence the direction of our e-learning content was a huge attraction.”

3. Give us a flavour of your role and what are some common challenges that crop up in the work you do?

“My main focus is on content development, specifically creating motion graphics and visuals that make our e-learning courses engaging for learners. I collaborate closely with clients to ensure I’m responsible for the entire visual side of our content, ensuring it’s informative, visually compelling, and accessible to different learning styles. Our visuals align with their expectations and teach delegates effectively on the subject matter.

“I’m responsible for the visual side of our content, ensuring it’s informative, visually compelling and accessible to different learning styles. We work closely with clients to ensure our visuals align with their brand, expectations, and teach delegates effectively on the subject being discussed.

“It can be challenging making sure our work matches what the client envisions - what I think translates well into a visual concept, could be completely different to what the client was hoping for. That’s where a good line of communication is key, and something we have nailed down at Chorus. With design, there’s always going to be amendments but our open style of communication with clients allows us to gather resources like images or references early on, streamlining the design process and ultimately delivering the best possible final product.

“I’m not a technical expert in the industries our clients work in, so communication with subject matter experts is key to ensuring accuracy across the many subjects and industries we cover.”

4. How do you make sure the graphics you create are both visually appealing and engaging for the end user consuming learning materials?

“The approach depends on the type of project - it may be a technical course that requires specific imagery, diagrams or technical details or it could be a soft skills course that allows for more creative input. Whatever the subject matter, it’s my responsibility to keep content dynamic and engaging.

“It’s all about the mix of content, I try to avoid leaving text on screen for too long and instead use animations, icons and symbols to reinforce the message. We also use voice overs to complement visuals, ensuring the content is accessible to different learning styles. The goal is to keep the viewer engaged and make the learning process as immersive as possible.”

5. What’s been a highlight project you’ve worked on so far at Chorus?

“One of the biggest projects I’ve worked on has been the GWO (Global Wind Organisation) training course for Vulcan, in Poland. This suite of five courses focuses on topics within the wind industry. A particular highlight was working on the fire safety course, where I created animations that illustrate fire spread and safety procedures - something that was both creatively rewarding and technically interesting.

“This project also had a translation element, as Vulcan trains in both English and Polish languages. Figuring out how to effectively produce translated content was a challenge and a first for us as a company, but it’s now a process we can apply to future projects as we expand into other languages.”

6. What makes Chorus different?

“I think what makes Chorus stand out is our emphasis on communication and client involvement being a key part of each project. It goes back to that open line of communication - we don’t just take a brief and run with it, we keep an open dialogue with clients throughout the process to make sure we deliver the right end-result. As a team we keep the process flexible for clients so they feel part of the development process - we genuinely care about making sure our content reflects the clients needs.

“We also give clients a sense of ownership over their content, working collaboratively to tailor courses and our website to their branding and requirements. Being able to dedicate the time to get things right and have that hyper focus of delivering our bespoke service to clients, is something we’re really proud of.”

“On the software side, our competency and compliance software makes managing staff requirements for work much easier and far less time consuming for our clients. The combination of our content with our training compliance management system puts us in a really unique position in the industry and I look forward to seeing where we’ll end up with it.”
